Lyrics…

Each year I hear Karen Carpenter’s song, “Merry Christmas, Darling”.  I love that song.  It makes me cry.  Of course, many Christmas songs bring tears to my eyes, I’m just like that. This song, though, returns me to 1983.  No matter what year it is, I am immediately taken back to the Christmas of 1983. Continue reading “Lyrics…”

Christmas Cookies…

I love cookies.  I love the smell of them while they are baking.  I love warm cookies out of the oven along with a cup of tea.  I love to eat cookies.  I don’t like baking cookies.  If I didn’t want my house to smell delicious I would never make them. I have a love/hateContinue reading “Christmas Cookies…”

In Making Memories…

Most of the posts about Christmas have surrounded past times and family.  I have talked about our family tradition and memories of my children and my childhood. I belong to a supper club.  It is a group of six women.  We meet most months at restaurants, have dinner, a glass of wine and our firstContinue reading “In Making Memories…”

The Peach Ornament…

The first house I remember living in as a child was beside a home where two brothers lived.  It was their family home and the two of them lived there all their lives.  My sisters and I would visit next door when one of the men would sit on his front porch.  I can rememberContinue reading “The Peach Ornament…”

Fake Presents…

Oh, by this title I could go in almost any direction, couldn’t I?  I could talk about all kinds of presents and the meaning behind them, but that just sounds boring and honestly, I don’t have the thoughts to carry on with that train of thought. But, there is a purpose for the name ofContinue reading “Fake Presents…”

Lights in the night…

When we moved to South Carolina, hubby and I started to decorate outdoors for Christmas.  I was amazed when hubby really got into the fun of decorating.  He figured out what he wanted for the yard and we have slowly gotten all the pieces for the yard.  There are still more pieces we want, andContinue reading “Lights in the night…”

When there is no tree….

Thirty five years ago, hubby and I were living in Japan.  We were waiting the arrival of our first child.  We were excited beyond words during that  time. We were living in government quarters on an abandoned WWII Japanese airstrip.  The housing area was situated along two very long, wide roads which once were theContinue reading “When there is no tree….”

Houses for Hospitals…

One Christmas just a few years ago, our dear friends were living for a short time in San Diego.  Their children were living in D.C. and they could not join their folks for Christmas. We determined that we would make certain to keep them occupied during the Christmas season to let then not feel likeContinue reading “Houses for Hospitals…”

Believe….

Each year hubby and I watch Christmas movies.  This is something we love to do together.  Tonight we watched The Polar Express, and once more, I cried through it. I was first introduced to this story when our youngest was in the fifth grade.  Her teacher had read the story to the class and sheContinue reading “Believe….”
