Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreshadow

Grandson's 1st

A week ago all the pieces were together to be moved.  One by one the back of cars were filled and delivered to the park around the corner.

I stood watch and placed the decorations where I thought they should go.  My precious daughter lovingly placed the banner on the high chair.  The hat was put into place awaiting the guest of honor.

The guests arrived, the food was spread out and covered in trying to ward off the flies and the bees.  (Didn’t succeed in all counts there).

But, this chair foreshadowed the event.  We all waited patiently and ate the delicious food that was prepared.  We all watched as paper was torn and gifts revealed.

Finally,…. finally, the moment we all had waited a year for.  The candle was lit.  The song was sung.  The candle blown out.   A bewildered little man sat watching everyone.  He eyed the cake in front of him.  He dug his little chubby hands into it.  He threw pieces to the ground, one after another.

Finally Momma put some of the cake in his little mouth.  A face was made as he tasted his first sweet in his life.  It stayed in his mouth a moment and then…..  Delight!   He then took both his little hands and shoved the cake into his little mouth.  Raising his arms in delight he held court with all the guests.   We cheered with him.  We laughed with him.  We celebrated his life.

We watched this immaculate chair become covered in cake and icing.  What a wonderful foreshadow this picture recalls.

Happy Birthday little man… we are so thankful you are here with us.  You make life fun.

Thanks for stopping by, DAF

  1. Happy Birthday indeed! The chair, hat and banner are fit for a king….beautiful. I can only imagine the joy of the cake eating…yummy and messy are a wonderful combination when you’re one!

  2. he did it well too! His little smash cake was adorable as were the decorations, all done by my daughter. Everything was perfect… the adults had homemade lemon cupcakes that were to die for. It was a fun time.

  3. I had a good laugh at the comment left by, Life with the Top Down. This was a great blog post, my friend. What a week it was! And what an incredible year to look forward too. You’ve got the smartest, cutest, most marvelous grandson in the whole wide world (she winks). Love this photo!
